Mission for title fight goes on at Monza for Aitken and Campos Racing at Monza, which marks the final European stage on the calendar. Sato to continue his learning curve on Italian soil

Campos Racing heads to Italy for the tenth round of the 2019 FIA Formula 2 season, which takes place at the Autodomo Nazionale di Monza. The “Temple of Speed” will feature a feast of close-fought racing with the Spain-based team entering its two Dallara F2 2018 cars for Jack Aitken and Marino Sato. The Italian Grand Prix will be a racing tribute to Anthoine Hubert, who passed away last weekend following a horror crash at Spa-Francorchamps.

Aitken sits fifth in the Drivers’ standings on 134 points and expects to bag another strong points haul at Monza. Anglo-Korean Aitken has already scored two wins and four podium finishes this season and his goal is to strengthen his title bid with three rounds remaining.

Sato made his FIA Formula 2 debut in Belgium showing promising pace. Unfortunately, Sato only completed two laps in race conditions as the feature and the sprint races were cancelled after the accident involving Hubert and Juan Manuel Correa.

The 5.793-kilometer, which is located north of Milan, is a high-speed circuit and drivers are on full throttle for most of the lap. Braking and traction play a key role at Monza and teams and drivers always try out slipstreaming tactics. Obviously, Monza demands very low downforce levels but at the same time there are high longitudinal forces, which affect tire wear.
Both free practice and qualifying sessions will take place on Friday at 13.00 and 16.55. Saturday’s race 1 with a mandatory pit stop is scheduled at 16.45 with Sunday’s sprint race bringing the curtain down at 10.50. All times are local (GMT+2).

Marino Sato (Driver of Campos Racing): “Monza is a very historical racing track and one of my favorite. And it’s a place where I spent few years from first year in Formula 4, really looking forward for my second home Grand Prix!”

Adrián Campos (President of Campos Racing): “It shall be a tough weekend for everybody. There will be several absentees with two drivers at the forefront of everyone’s mind: Anthoine (Hubert) and Juan Manuel (Correa), the latter whom I wish a speedy recovery and I hope he will get well soon. It will be a sad race weekend but we must deal with it. We all will try to bring home the best possible results.”
