Aitken and Boccolacci are ready for Round 2
Campos Racing will head to Azerbaijan for the second round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, which will take place at the Baku City Circuit this weekend. The Spanish-based team will field their two Dallara F2 2018 cars for Jack Aitken and Dorian Boccolacci, who set high expectations for themselves ahead of the weekend.
Aitken scored his first points of the season in the opening round in Bahrain. Despite struggling on the tire wear challenge, Briton Aitken finished seventh on Saturday. Frenchman Boccolacci also showed potential despite he couldn’t finish in the points-paying positions.
The urban circuit in the streets of Baku is always one of the most defining moments of the season as the 6.003-kilometer layout – the second longest on the 2019 calendar– leaves no margin for mistakes. Besides, the Azerbaijani circuit is the fastest street circuit of the year with the longest straight, which is two kilometers long, where normally tires cool down and the braking area gets extremely tricky.
Both free practice and qualifying sessions will take place on Friday at 11.00 and 15.00. Saturday’s race with one mandatory pit-stop is scheduled at 12.00 with the weekend coming to an end with sprint race on Sunday at 13.10. All times are local (GMT +4).
Adrián Campos (Campos Racing President): “We managed to be extremely competitive in Baku last year. Unfortunately, we couldn’t translate it into good results but we know our team will show front-running pace. We’ll see what happens but we have full confidence in our drivers, who have worked restlessly with their engineers to prepare for this Grand Prix.”
Jack Aitken (Campos Racing Driver): “I’m really looking forward to returning to the track where I had my first podium in F2 last year with second position in the feature race. It’s an extremely challenging track and the racing is always great. I’m sure we’ll have the pace to be fighting for one better this year!”
Dorian Boccolacci (Campos Racing Driver): “It’s going to be a really interesting weekend in Baku!
It’s my first time on this street circuit, and I am really excited to make my first lap here. The drivers here need to be like a ninja between the walls of the track. The target, clearly, is to improve from the last race and to score good points.”
