The Stena Line Belfast Giants made it a pre-season double over Mora IK of Sweden with a 4-1 win in Sunday’s feisty clash in Belfast. Two weekend wins get the Giants Champions League preparations off to the best possible start with the opening game vs Liberec only 11 days away.

A brace in the opening period from Matt Pelech as well as goals from Jordan Smotherman and Lewis Hook gave the Giants two victories in as many nights against Mora.

Shane Owen started in the Belfast net with the Giants icing a full line up for the second time this weekend.

Giants Start With Pelech Double

Matt Pelech struck the first of his two goals in the first period after only 125 seconds, assisted by Paul Swindlehurst.

Pelech’s fierce wrist shot flew into the top shelf of the Mora net at 7:12 with the Giants on the powerplay and assisted by Liam Morgan and Ciaran Long.

Mora Cut Giants Lead In Half

The visitors hit back in the middle period when Adam Masuhr fired home from the blueline at 27:23, assisted by Daniel Ljunggren and Oscar Eklind.

Giants Add Late Double

The Giants added an insurance goal with 5:10 remaining when Jordan Smotherman pounced on Liam Reddox’s rebound to slot into the Mora goal on the powerplay.

Lewis Hook netted at 58:33 with a cool finish into the empty Mora net as the Giants made sure of the weekend double against their Swedish visitors.
