Arden Motorsport get podium place at Brands Hatch

Arden Motorsport continued their impressive silverware streak in British F4 in a scorching weekend at the iconic Brands Hatch GP circuit.

Donington Park race winner Alex Connor carried his momentum from the season opener to secure a front row start for race one, which he then converted into a podium finish in the opening contest.

Clearly a force to be reckoned with at the circuit where he secured his maiden pole position and series podium at the end of 2019, the 16-year-old would finish fifth in the following race before making a second visit to the rostrum in the final race of the weekend.

His points haul in soaring temperatures at the Kent circuit results in third position in the Drivers’ Standings with two rounds completed of the 2020 campaign.

Roman Bilinski enjoyed consistency across the trio of races, putting in a defensive masterclass to hold onto eighth in the opening encounter after sustaining wing damage early on.

The Ginetta graduate then made further progress to finish sixth in race two behind team-mate Connor before going one better in the final race of the weekend, making up three places en route to fifth position to mark his best result in the series to date.

It was a challenging weekend for Frederick Lubin, who would finish 12th and 13th in Saturday’s double-header of races before recovering to secure a points finish in the final contest, placing second in the Rookie Cup category and leaving him fourth in the standings.

The Red Arrows return to action next weekend [22-23 August] at Cheshire’s fast-and-flowing Oulton Park circuit for another triple-header of British F4 races.

Arden British F4 Team Manager Gary Ward: “It was great to make further progress and bring back more silverware for everyone at Arden Motorsport.

“Alex is clearly a big fan of Brands Hatch GP as he went so well here last year, and a double podium is a great result for his championship challenge.

“Roman was really impressive and put in some great defensive drives to get his best result so far, while Frederick certainly learnt a lot at one of the toughest circuits in really challenging conditions.

“We’ve got a bit of a break now but we can’t wait to go to Oulton Park next weekend to continue this streak we’re on!”

Alex Connor: “After my best and worst F4 drives at Donington where I got my first British F4 win in race one, followed in race two by a DNF, I knew I needed to have a solid weekend and bag as many points as possible without taking risks. Coming away with two P3 finishes and P5 in the reversed grid race I am quite happy with the result.

"Brands GP is one of my favourite tracks, I got the double pole here last year in the wet so I was hoping to do well. I think everyone found it difficult to follow the car in front too closely as it caused handling problems which is why we didn't see too much overtaking, certainly at the front of the grid after the first couple of laps.

"Oulton Park is another circuit which I enjoy, it is quite challenging but you can overtake, so I am hoping we will get some great races. Of course I will be wanting three wins, but I also know that consistency is very important for the championship race so I will need to race with my head.”

Roman Bilinski: “Brands [Hatch] threw some problems but luckily everything turned out well. Race one was one of the toughest as early on I had wing damage so getting to the pace I was at earlier was impossible. It turned into a race-long lesson in defending!

“Oulton Park is quite a complicated track so there’s a lot to consider. My focus is to learn and bring back more good points.”

Frederick Lubin:“Brands was quite difficult. I made a few too many mistakes which ultimately cost us the weekend.

“To finish in the points in the last race was a positive way to sign off our weekend. We’ve got a couple of weeks off now before Oulton, which I am looking forward to.

“It’s quite narrow so it’s again hard to overtake but it should be better than Brands and hopefully we’ll pick up some more points.”
