Steven Smith made his 42nd First Class century on day two of the Marsh Sheffield Shield match between the NSW Blues and Western Australia at the SCG.

Across the first two days, Smith scored 103 from 295 deliveries before he was the fourth wicket to fall with the score at 314 not long before lunch on Tuesday. The Blues declared at tea 8/444 after resuming the day at 2/221.

Smith hit nine fours and two sixes during his patient knock, on a slow pitch, while Henriques reached the rope 12 times and cleared it twice during his 116 balls at the crease.

“After playing the T20s (for Australia), it was about coming back into red ball cricket and finding the right way to go about it,” said Smith at tea on Tuesday.

“It was a bit slower than I would have liked, it wasn’t easy.”

Three Western Australian bowlers took two wickets in the first innings including left-arm wrist spinner Short with 2-39 from 11 overs.

Allrounder Marcus Stoinis (2-59) and leg-spinner Liam O’Connor (2-77) were the other multiple wicket takers.
