Ryan Shaw signs for Leigh Centurions


Leigh Centurions are delighted to confirm the signing of Ryan Shaw which was announced to a packed audience in the Banqueting Suite ahead of today's Betfred Championship game against York City Knights.

Shaw, 27, is an accomplished, goal-kicking three-quarter or full back with great experience in Super League and the Championship and joins John Duffy's squad following a short stint in rugby union with Leeds Carnegie.

A product of the Barrow Island community club, Barrow born Shaw was snapped up by Warrington Wolves as a teenager and made his first team bow during a month's loan at Leigh Centurions early in the 2012 season.

He earned Heritage Number #1360 when he scored a try in the Centurions' 42-0 win over Gateshead Thunder in a Northern Rail Cup-tie at Kingston Park in March 2012 when Matty Russell and Adam Russell were fellow players on debut. Leigh Centurions head coach John Duffy and prop Tom Spencer were also in the line-up.

Shaw scored two tries in an 18-24 home defeat at the hands of Batley at LSV and bowed out with a goal in a defeat at Featherstone Rovers before going on to further his experience with extended dual registration and loan stints at hometown Barrow, Swinton and London Broncos. He made his Super League bow during a loan spell in the capital during 2013 in games against Widnes and Leeds.

After scoring ten tries and kicking 60 goals for Barrow during their Championship campaign in 2015 he moved to Bradford Bulls following his release from Warrington where he further enhanced his reputation, scoring 16 tries and kicking 111 goals in 25 games.

For the past four seasons he has been a key part of Hull KR's team, scoring 27 tries in their promotion season in 2017, then being a regular in their past two Super League campaigns. In 2019 he kicked 63 goals in Super League at a success rate of 90 percent, an outstanding record bettered only by Warrington's Dec Patton.

Shaw has scored 94 tries and kicked 410 goals for 1,196 pts in 167 career games since that Leigh Centurions debut In the north-east eight years ago.
