Hellewell and Centurions agree new deal

Leigh Centurions are delighted to confirm that Ben Hellewell has signed a new contract at the Club until the end of the 2021 season.

The Scottish international had started 2020 in great form, making a positional switch from the backline to the second row with great effect.

Hellewell said: "I didn't have the best of times at London in 2019 so I jumped at the opportunity to join Leigh Centurions. I knew a few of the players and the Head Coach John Duffy so it was an easy decision for me.

"Since coming to Leigh I've been playing in the forwards and the move is something I've really enjoyed. I'm seeing more of the ball and the defensive side of my game has really improved too.

"With so many of the 2020 squad re-signing, there is a good continuity about things and we showed at the start of the season that we know how to win matches. Hopefully that will set us up well for pre-season and I'm really looking forward to getting back into training with all the lads."

Head Coach John Duffy is keen for Hellewell to continue his learning curve with Leigh Centurions next season.

He said: "Ben had a great pre-season last year and started the campaign really well, forging a new role in the back row.

"Like so many others, he was going really well when the competition was halted. I'm looking forward to seeing him kick on and continue setting standards." Leigh have signed Scotland international Ben Hellewell from London for 2020.

Hellewell arrived at Leigh Sports Village ahead of the 2020 season from London Broncos where he'd been a regular since 2015. He also earned 14 caps for Scotland on the international stage, working with John Duffy and several other Leigh players such as Adam Walker.

The 28-year-old earned #HN1494 in 2020 and quickly settled into life at his new Club. Hellewell has also appeared for Bradford Bulls, Warrington Wolves, York (dual reg), Barrow (dual reg), Featherstone Rovers (dual reg), Dewsbury Rams (dual reg) and Sheffield Eagles (dual reg) during his career and in 2019 was a member of the Eagles team which defeated Widnes Vikings in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.
