Centurions Make Formal Application For Betfred Super League 2021

Leigh Centurions have this morning submitted their formal application for a place in the Betfred Super League for the 2021 season ahead of the 9am deadline.

Club Owner Derek Beaumont accompanied Head Coach John Duffy, Leigh Community Trust Programmes Director Hannah Forbes and player Mark Ioane to personally deliver the compelling 430-page bid document to the Rugby Football League headquarters at Red Hall, Leeds and Super League Europe Limited offices in Manchester.

Seven copies were delivered in total, one for each member of the selection Panel together with chairman Lord Jonathan Caine. The document was also delivered electronically.

Leigh Centurions owner Derek Beaumont said: “It has been a crazy period between receiving and reviewing the application process and criteria and getting the finished product to the printer.

“Irrespective of the outcome Leigh Centurions will undoubtedly be a stronger club in 2021, as a result of this far-reaching exercise.

“This has taught me so much about the outstanding commitment, passion and ability of the various departments, who all pulled together as a great team.

“Without that collective effort, a document of this quality would have been impossible to produce.

“What is even more pleasing is that everything contained in the bid document is produced internally and developed internally.

“This clearly demonstrates the qualities and abilities of the structures within our club that the information exists and is readily available and further demonstrates the procedures we already have in place.”

Mr Beaumont added: “I’d like to pay special thanks to Lord Smith of Leigh, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, the Member of Parliament for Leigh, James Grundy, The Leader of Wigan Council, David Molyneux and the Director of Economy and Skills, Wigan Council, Becca Heron for their support offered to this application.”

“On behalf of the operational board I’d like to personally thank Simon Toon and his team at Leigh Sports Village for their contribution which was a vital part of this application.

“Together we all work with the ethos of a team. Together Everyone Achieves More.

“When the document was delivered this morning it almost felt like the operational board and non-playing staff and partners have played the play-offs in the boardroom rather than on the field. I am confident we have made the “Million Pound Game.” It feels like I am placing a grubber kick to the corner, it’s the last play of the game, I close my eyes, I can’t bear to watch. Does he get there and ground the ball to win??? We will all be waiting to find out.”

The Club’s official launch video, contained within this application, will be subject to a separate press release after the video has had time to be viewed. The launch video can be viewed below:
