U19, 23, para and senior trials completed for US Rowing


Sunday evening saw the 1,900 meter time trials were held for 17 events at the 2019 USRowing Under 19, Under 23, Para and Senior Trials III. The time trials will serve for seeding throughout the rest of the event.

In the closest finish of the evening for the No. 1 seed, separated by just 1.33 seconds in the under 23 lightweight men’s pair, the Greenwich Crew lineup of Anthony Frascella and Christopher Stich narrowly edged out the Riverside Boat Club crew of Collin Hay and Matthew Marchiony. The two crews completed the trial in 6:51.73 and 6:53.06, respectively.

Potomac Boat Club’s Emily Schmieg came out on top of the time trial in the lightweight women’s single, posting a time of 7:58..79, while Matthew O’Leary of Keble College Boat Club recorded the top time of the lightweight men’s single. O’Leary posted a time of 7:05.78.

Emory Sammons of Sarasota Crew and Emily Kallfelz of Cambridge Boat Club took top spots in the trials for the under 23 men’s and women’s single. The two finished in times of 7:15.24 and 7:44.20, respectively.

Racing is set to resume tomorrow morning at the Finn M. W. Caspersen Rowing Center on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. The first round of finals for six under 19 events will be held tomorrow morning, where a winner is determined in a “best two out of three” format. Additionally, heat racing will be held for 15 under 23 and senior level events.
