New Zealand have three boat classes qualify for Tokyo
Three New Zealand boat classes have qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics ahead of A Finals at the 2019 World Rowing Championships.
New Zealand’s women’s pair, lightweight women’s double and women’s quad boat classes have qualified for Tokyo 2020 after securing lanes in A Finals at the 2019 World Rowing Championships.
Eight Kiwi crews contested semi-finals, repechages and one C/D semi-final overnight New Zealand time. At the conclusion of racing New Zealand had progressed to six A Finals and three B Finals, with a further five crews yet to contest A/B semi-finals. Two crews will contest C and D Finals.
Women’s Pair (W2-) - A/B Semi-Final
Grace Prendergast and Kerri Gowler placed first in their women’s pair A/B semi-final and move to the A Final on Saturday.
The top 11 nations in the women’s pair qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. By qualifying for the A Final, the New Zealand women’s pair boat class has automatically qualified for Tokyo.
Lightweight Women’s Double (LW2x) - A/B Semi-Final
Zoe McBride and Jackie Kiddle won their lightweight women’s double A/B semi-final and progress to the A Final on Saturday.
The top seven nations in the lightweight women’s double qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. By qualifying for the A Final, the New Zealand lightweight women’s double boat class has automatically qualified for Tokyo.
Women’s Quad (W4x) - Repechage
Kirstyn Goodger, Ruby Tew, Sam Voss and Hannah Osborne placed second in their women’s quad repechage and progress to the A Final.
The top eight nations in the women’s quad qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. By qualifying for the A Final, the New Zealand women’s quad boat class has automatically qualified for Tokyo.
Women’s Four (W4-) - A/ B Semi-Final
Davina Waddy, Kelsi Walters, Eve Macfarlane and Phoebe Spoors placed fifth in their women’s four A/B semi-final and progress to the B Final.
The top eight nations in the women’s four qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. All A Final crews and the first two placing nations in the B Final will qualify their boat class.
Men’s Eight (M8+) - Repechage
James Lassche, Hamish Bond, Shaun Kirkham, Mahe Drysdale, Brook Robertson, Phillip Wilson, Matt MacDonald, Stephen Jones and coxswain Sam Bosworth placed second in the men’s eight repechage and progress to the A Final.
The top five nations in the men’s eight will qualify their boat class for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Men’s Quad (M4x) - A/B Semi-Final
Nathan Flannery, Lewis Hollows, Cameron Crampton and Jordan Parry placed fifth in their men’s quad A/B semi-final and progress to the B Final.
The top eight nations in the men’s quad qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. All A Final crews and the first two placing nations in the B Final will qualify their boat class.
Lightweight Men’s Double (LM2x) - A/B Semi-Final
Matthew Dunham and Harrison Somerville placed sixth in their lightweight men’s double A/B semi-final and move to the B Final.
The top seven nations in the lightweight men’s pair qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. All A Final crews and the winner of the B Final will qualify their boat class.
Lightweight Men’s Single (LM1x) - C/D Semi-Final
Ben van Dalen placed sixth in his lightweight men’s single C/D semi-final and moves to the D Final.
Friday’s schedule includes A/B semi-finals for the women’s single, women’s double, men’s single, men’s pair and men’s double. New Zealand's PR2 men’s single will also contest the A Final on Friday.
