Steelers fight back

It was a third period to forget for Glasgow Clan as Sheffield Steelers came from two goals behind to claim a 5-3 win and take the points from Braehead Arena.

Clan were looking to build on the previous two wins over Fife Flyers and there were signs of the form that served them so well earlier in the season, but in the end, it wasn't to be.

It was a great start from Zack Fitzgerald's men in the opening period as they went for the jugular and caused the league leaders some early problems.

Mathieu Roy almost managed to scramble the puck over the line, but it all paid off as Craig Peacock fired one in from the left side face off circle and Tomas Duba, in Sheffield's goal was beaten.

The British forward almost got a second when a well hit effort from the slot struck the foot of Duba's left hand post and it was a let off for the Steelers.

Aaron Fox's men hit back with an equaliser as Linden Springer was robbed by Nikolai Lemtyugov and the Russian winger came forward and delivered a diagonal shot that flew into the home net.

Clan went ahead again on the powerplay when Chad Rau's assist set up Roy, who finished off a scramble in front of the crease, allowing Glasgow to go 2-1 up after the first period.

Steelers thought they had scored a second when Marek Troncinsky's shot hit the left side post and seemed to roll across the goal line before the home side got it to safety.

The visitors requested the review, but were denied, to the delight of the home fans, who saw the lead kept intact.

Glasgow managed to get the third one on the board as LaPorte led the charge down the right, squaring a pass to Rasmus Bjerrum, who got the crucial touch.

It was an assured display, but all it took was one goal from Steelers turned the momentum the other way and the night turned sour for the home side.

Josef Hrabal's blue line shot got a touch from Jonathan Phillips to bring Sheffield to within one then within a minute later, Aaron Brocklehurst surged on the Clan defence, with Patrick Killeen making the save, but Michael Davies was at the back post to send in the finish.

Davies played provided for Steelers' go-ahead goal, teeing up Anthony DeLuca, who swept in a one-timer on the powerplay and the league leaders found themselves in front.

The salt was rubbed into the wounds by Tanner Eberle with a strike from the inside left and Clan's two-goal lead became a two-gal deficit and enough for Sheffield to win the game.
