own Griffiths returns for 2020

With the league hoping to return to action in mid November, 24 year old forward Owen Griffiths has signed on with the club on a 2 year contract. The 5’10”, 175lb skater had 7 goals and 16 points during his inaugural 55 game Covid shortened term under Spectrum lights last season after recording the same point total across 62 games during his first full EIHL stint with Milton Keynes Lightning in 2018-2019. The former Great Britain Under 20 skater spent a pair of terms at Premier and National League Peterborough Phantoms from 2016 to 2018 where he collected 29 goals and 48 assists across 96 starts.

“I am really happy to be back in Guildford for the next 2 seasons,” said Griffiths. “I had a good experience in Guildford, and I am excited to get back at it. Next year should be a big year after a prolonged summer off-season. I’m really excited to get the ball rolling after the hard work I have put in over the summer. Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy and ready for opening night in Guildford.”

Including a handful of appearances with Cardiff Devils in 2013-2014, the Welsh national has played 122 games at the country’s top level in addition to more than 200 senior credits with National League Devils, Wightlink Raiders, Swindon Wildcats and Phantoms.

Griffiths iced for GB Under 18s in 2013-2014 and was with the Bronze medal winning Under 20’s in 2015-2016 where he registered a goal in 4 world championship games.

“Owen came in here and fell into his role perfectly,” explained Head Coach Paul Dixon. “He works hard and plays a responsible game all over the ice.”

“He just turned 24 and I believe he is still improving as a player which will only serve us even better going forward.”

“We are obviously working towards a much later season start than usual, but whenever we finally get moving again, we will be pleased to slip Owen back into the lineup.”
