Glasgow win three in a row
Glasgow Clan sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West continued their fine form, increasing their winning streak to three games on the trot after a tightly contested 4-3 win over Manchester Storm.
Mathieu Roy’s third period finish proved vital after goals from Liam Stenton, Colin Campbell and Nolan Laporte had Malcolm Cameron’s men in a convincing lead before a late Storm chase.
It was to be the perfect start for the hosts as the deadlock was broken within a matter of minutes. A beautiful exchange across the blue line left Liam Stenton free on the left, who steadied himself before sending a wrist shot into the top shelf, claiming his first ever professional goal.
The intensity from the off continued as both netminders were called into action, making strong saves to keep the score down.
Four minutes into the second, the Clan’s lead was doubled. Lurking in front of the crease Colin Campbell was there to divert Mitch Jones’ effort over the helpless Jason Bacashihua.
With seven minutes remaining the Clan sailed into the lead on the powerplay. Nolan LaPorte was on hand at the back door to divert Colton Yellow Horn’s pass into the net, giving the Clan their third of the night following a lengthy video review.
However, the three-goal advantage was to be short lived as the Storm had goal of their own. Tayler Thompson picked up the puck in front of the Clan goal before expertly tipping past Starrett.
Less than two minutes into the final period, Mathieu Roy made no mistake to restore the three-goal advantage, neatly slotting through the Storm netminder on the powerplay.
Two goals in five minutes then gave Storm coach Ryan Finnerty hope as Joe Hazeldine collected at the top of the circle before dispatching a fine wrist shot low into the bottom corner.
With ten minutes remaining the gap was reduced to just a goal when Austin Albrecht snapped his effort high and home to close the gap.
Despite going down on the powerplay for the final minute, the Clan held strong in defence to claim their second win over the Storm in 11 days and move into sixth in the Premier Sports Elite League standings.
