Flames take road win at Fife Flyers

A goal and a couple of assists by John Dunbar helped lead the offensive charge as the Flames collect their first Scottish road win of the season thanks to a 4-1 defeat of Fife Flyers.

Flames took a lead at 13:02 off the stick of Jordan Cownie and nursed the advantage through to the 2nd set.

In the 26th minute, a Flames powerplay came through when Brett Ferguson connected, and they added another around the midway point with Mike Crocock’s 1st in Flames gear to secure a 3 goal cushion through 40 minutes.

Early in the 3rd, with Flyers skating 5 men to 4, the home team cut their deficit to a pair thanks to Greg Chase, but Flames re-stored the initial gap with the final goal; a Dunbar strike at 47:53.

“It has been a while since we have been up 3 goals or so midway through a game so certainly having established that lead on a long haul road game, made the night a lot easier on ourselves,” admitted Paul Dixon.

“We got some great saves especially really early from Kevin to keep us from falling behind, and that allowed us the opportunity to eventually play from the front and the guys took advantage of that.”

“Now the challenge is to get home at 7am and try to get enough daytime rest to be ready for one of the best teams in the league with Belfast Giants coming to Spectrum Sunday.”

“Hopefully the good stuff from tonight help us with a bit of confidence that we can use to put in a good showing tomorrow.”
