Flames have OT win at Manchester

Travis Fullerton was good on 44 of 45 shots and TJ Foster had the winner inside the last 2 minutes of overtime during a 2-1 win at Manchester Storm.

Flames opened the offence a little over 5 minutes in through Ben Davies, but a late frame reply by Dallas Ehrhardt sent the teams to break even on a goal each; a circumstance that would hold through regulation time.

In the middle set, the visitors leaned heavily on Travis Fullerton who was forced to make 18 saves against just 9 at Matt Gin’s end, but with both men perfect across the period the level score held up through 40 minutes.

Flames ended the 2nd period with a penalty, and started the 3rd shorthanded, but managed to kill that one off and another that followed before the clubs settled on a 60 minute tie to set up the extra time Foster heroics at 63:07.

“Both teams got outstanding goaltending tonight, but we wouldn’t have won that game without the kind of game Travis gave us,” concluded Head Coach Paul Dixon.

“We had to kill penalties at key times, and you always need your netminder to be your best penalty killer, but tonight he was our best player, bar none. In the 2nd period, Storm poured on the pressure and getting out of that stretch of the game still tied was really a crucial part of the eventual outcome.”

“We were much more threatening in the late stages of the 3rd period and definitely had the bulk of the play in OT and fortunately for us that was enough to open a lane for TJ’s goal that secured a win.”
