Clan lose to Cardiff Devils
Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, saw their weekend end on a disappointing note as Cardiff Devils came from behind to win 5-2 at Braehead Arena.
The first meeting between the teams for over two years was one that will please the Devils most as they overcame a 2-1 deficit to secure their second victory in two nights.
The lack of any real clear cut chances summed up the almost cat and mouse nature of the opening period, which wasn’t surprising when both teams returned to their locker rooms will no goals between them.
Jordan McLaughlin, starting in goal for the injured Shane Starrett, was kept busy for the opening few minutes, typified by a chance that hit the post, but he was never really overworked.
Clan had a few chances, but Devils goalie Taran Kozun dealt with anything remotely resembling a half chance with relative ease.
Brandon McNally struck the post again as the home side battled against a five-on-three penalty, which was eventually killed.
However Guillaume Gauthier had Glasgow’s best opportunity, trying to force in at the end of the session, but was denied.
McLaughlin was called upon to make an excellent glove save from Brodie Reid, but it was the home team, who eventually opened the scoring.
A pass from LaPorte found Campbell in space as he executed a cool finish past Kozun to finally break the deadlock.
Devils retaliated a couple of minutes after as Josh Lammon set up Cole Sanford, finishing off as he surged down the inside left.
However Glasgow restored their lead with a well worked move as Dyson Stevenson looked to fire on goal, only to lay off to Mathieu Roy on the right to fire into the net.
Clan had to work to kill off another five-on-three that straddled the second and third periods, but Cardiff threatened to turn it around when Mikkelson hit the post.
Devils were soon level as Sanford’s shot took a touch from Lammon to make it 2-2.
Momentum started to turn in favour of the visitors and it was Lammon again with what proved to be the winning goal with around seven minutes to go.
Then Sam Duggan took advantage of a loose puck to drill his shot into the net for insurance, with McNally added an empty net goal for good measure in the final couple of minutes.
