Great Britain's men moved to the summit of the FIH Pro League table with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Germany in Moenchengladbach.

Another goal from the free-scoring Phil Roper, alongside a superb defensive effort to repel several late penalty corners, saw Great Britain take a well-earned win to make it four from five on the road.

Victory and a clean-sheet will serve as the perfect preparation for Great Britain who make their home debut against Spain on Saturday 4 May at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

David Condon made his 50th Great Britain appearance in what was GB's first tournament victory over Germany since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Danny Kerry's side have nine FIH Pro League games remaining, seven of them at home, and will look to solidify their place at the top of the table.

Captain and Player of the Match Adam Dixon said: “Maybe it’s not one for the purists today with lots of goals and free-flowing hockey, but I think winning in this manner when it gets a bit ugly and with a bit of defending to do is a good sign and shows we’re stepping in the right direction.”

“We’ve got to turn this around for the Spain game next weekend and there’s still plenty to improve on, so that’s a pretty encouraging sign. We’re going to be training really hard at Bisham Abbey through the week, we’ll get a run out at Lee Valley and then hopefully go and smash it on Saturday.”
