Victory for Arden Motoersport in season opener

Arden Motorsport kicked off their 2020 British F4 season in the best possible fashion with victory in the season opener at Donington Park.

Alex Connor signalled his intent with a well-managed maiden series victory in the first contest of the weekend, making immediate progress from his fifth-position grid slot.

He would then scythe through the pack to take a lead he would never relinquish, managing the race superbly en route to a memorable win.

The 16-year-old suffered unfortunate contact in the second encounter, but produced a solid recovery drive in the final race to add to his points tally.

Frederick Lubin impressed on his debut British F4 weekend, securing points in all three races including a standout performance in the second race to narrowly miss out on the overall podium in fourth position.

A well-deserved hat-trick of points finishes for the YRDA-backed racer translates to second position in the highly-competitive Rookie Cup standings.

Rookie Roman Bilinski also enjoyed a promising start to his campaign, securing two top-ten finishes in the first two races.

Despite a challenging final race, the Ginetta graduate enjoyed strong pace and will take plenty of positives into the trio of Brands Hatch races.

The Red Arrows will look to continue their momentum this weekend [08-09 August] on the historic Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in Kent.

Arden British F4 Team Manager, Gary Ward:

“To start our British F4 season with a win was perfect, especially with Alex carving through the field to get it. It’s an amazing result for him and he really deserves it after learning so much last year.

“Frederick also did a fantastic job to get three points finishes on the board in his first weekend of F4, and Roman had some great pace and managed to get some points to his name as well.

“It was a really encouraging weekend all round and we’ve got plenty of positives to take into Brands Hatch this weekend. Alex went really well there at the end of last season so here’s hoping for more of the same!”

Alex Connor (#27) said:

"It was a mixed weekend overall but I think there were many positives to take away from it.

“Getting my first British F4 win was amazing and I felt like I had made a massive improvement in my driving from last year, particularly my overtaking, so I know I can aim for a good result from anywhere on the grid.

“Now I am looking forward to Brands GP this weekend, I got a double Pole there last season so I hope that I can repeat that again and we can come away with more wins."

Roman Bilinski (#55) said:

“This weekend there were some highs and lows to learn from. On the positive side our times were great, so just now we need to turn that into higher race finishes.

“Brands Hatch GP will be interesting as it’s new to me but my engineer and I have been discussing a lot and I can’t wait to get there!”

Frederick Lubin (#78) said:

“My first British F4 round was really good fun! I learnt a lot and took most things in my stride.

“In race one I found my rhythm and understood a bit more about how a single-seater race works. Race two was hectic but I kept my nose clean and managed the gaps to come home in fourth which was the highlight of my weekend.

“Race three was unfortunate because I didn’t have the tyres to take the race to the front so I was defending for most it, thankfully I held on to tenth although it was close.

“I’m going into Brands [Hatch] with a lot more confidence and hopefully we’ll pick up some more great points.”
