Luke Procter Signs 2 Year Contract Extension

Luke Procter has become the latest cricketer to commit to Northamptonshire having signed a 2-year contract extension, keeping the all-rounder at the Club until the end of 2022.

“I’m very excited to have signed a new deal and I’m looking forward to playing here for a few more years.” Procter said.

Having made his debut for Lancashire in 2010, Procter is no stranger to Division One cricket. Speaking of the club’s promotion to the top division of the County Championship, he believed the club “definitely has the skill in the squad to properly compete”.

“We’ve obviously had a great season in red-ball cricket this summer and hopefully we can carry that on. We have the talent as a unit, we just need to be more consistent and a bit more ruthless next season, particularly when we’re on top of sides.” Procter said.

Head Coach David Ripley described Procter as “the ideal player for a coach to have in his team”.

“I’m pleased for him, he’s a nice hard-working cricketer that doesn’t always get the limelight. He goes under the radar a bit but in the dressing-room he’s very much regarded and respected for what he consistently gives the team.” Ripley said.

“He’s a very versatile bowl when you need him, bat anywhere in the order, all-formats kind of player. He’s been chomping at the bit to get into the T20 side which he probably didn’t feature in as much as he’d have liked last year but he’s really pushing for a place. But in the other 2 formats he’s really wedged in.”

While Ripley was keen to not build up Division One too much, he believed Procter’s past experience in the division would be valuable.

“Luke’s been in Div One before and had one of his best seasons there, I think he banged 900 odd runs batting at three for Lancashire. It’ll be good for him to draw on that experience, he’s banked it, he’s been there and done a good job.” Ripley said.
