Giants start weekend with away win

Four goals by the Stena Line Belfast Giants in the space of only 98 middle period seconds helped do the damage on their way to an important 5-2 road win in Glasgow.

Leading 1-0 after the opening 20 minutes of action - the Giants struck four times in the second period to stun the home side and take two points in their final regular season game in Glasgow.

Following Saturday’s win - the Giants remain third in the standings with 44 points from 35 games. Though the Giants have closed in on second place with the Cardiff Devils two points ahead having played two games less. The Sheffield Steelers remain in first place with 51 points from 37 games ahead of the Giants visit on Sunday.

Special Teams Dominate First

The Giants were called into early penalty killing with four penalties in eight first period minutes. Shane Owen and the Giants defence stood firm to kill off the Clan powerplays and the visitors opened the scoring soon after.

The hosts got on the board at 27:50 when Marcus Jonsson skated the puck into the Giants zone and rifled a wrist shot past Shane Owen, assisted by Matt Pufahl.

Glasgow Grab Consolation

It was the visitors who would round off the scoring on Saturday’s Elite League clash as Matt Beca reacted first to Travis Ehrhardt’s rebound on the powerplay at 42:46.
