Peterborough Phantom II 2 - 4 Solent Devils
Sunday night, the Solent Devils took to the road and headed to face the Peterborough Phantoms.
The Devils, coming out of a double header loss to Slough were looking to rebound, and Peterborough too were looking to recover after two weeks of losses also.
Mason Wild sat an early penalty for the Devils, after being caught tripping at 00:41, and the Phantoms took full advantage, managing to put the puck past Matt Colclough guarding the Devils net. Clint Herring and Shaun Yardley providing the assists on Conor Pollard’s early goal.
Time crept on, and just after eight minutes in to the game, Alex Murray found strike partner Richard Facey, who got the Devils on the scoreboard with his tenth goal of the season.
A fast and frantic game ensued, as the fans were treated to these two teams battling it out on the ice. It took until almost half way through the game, when Devils captain Alex Cole and Mitch Murray helped veteran forward, Drew Campbell put the Devils in to the lead.
The Devils weren’t done with the second period though, and battled on, Facey returning the earlier assist by setting Alex Murray up, who doubled the Devils lead.
In the dying minute of the second period, Nicholas Alley was given two plus ten for a check to the head, meaning he missed more than half of the third period. Herring was ejected from the game less than five minutes into the period too, after his attempt to fight was frowned upon by the referee.
Ben Lock then sat a penalty, the big Devils defenceman getting picked up for cross checking.
Phantoms rallied, and went hard on the attack, Alley being the man to find the back of the net once more, assists provided from Pollard and Yardley bringing the score back to 3-2.
Murray though, pulling his team forward – with help from Cole and Lock – went on to beat Daniel Lane once more, just eighty seconds after the Phantoms second, making the score 4-2.
The Devils held this until the final buzzer, ready to head home and face Romford Raiders next weekend, as the two teams battle to push themselves out of the middle of the table and in to the top four.
Peterborough prepare to face Haringey Huskies, as these two teams battle to elevate themselves in to the top half of the league.
