Glasgow Clan 8 Milton Keynes Lightning 3
Matt Beca's hat-trick got Glasgow Clan back to winning ways as they comfortably defeated Milton Keynes Lightning 8-3.
After defeats to Cardiff Devils and Coventry Blaze, Pete Russell's men got the bounce back they wanted to strengthen their grip on fifth place.
A dramatic start set the tone when Clan went ahead in the first couple of minutes on the powerplay, as Scott Pitt combined with Brendan Connolly.
Connolly, at the read goal line, fed it across the blue paint to find Matt Beca, who swept it to give the home side the lead.
A small tussle between Travis Ehrhardt and MK's Tim Wallace quickly followed, but was over before it begun.
Just over a minute later, Clan had doubled the lead when Craig Peacock set Vaclav Stupka on one of his speedy adventures, with the Slovakian setting Peacock up to apply the finish.
After some early penalty trouble, Lightning started to play a bit and their best chance arguably came from Owen Griffiths, who forced Joel Rumpel into a low save for the Clan.
MK hit back a minute or so into the restart as Tim Wallace squeezed the puck in at Rumpel's right hand post.
However Clan restored the two-goal lead as Rasmus Bjerrum set up Matt Haywood who applied the finish.
Haywood got his second and Glasgow's fourth with a shorthanded finish, as Gerard Hanson led a break up the right, sending the puck into the slot where Clan's #11 finished.
Georg Golovkovs notched MK's second on the powerplay shortly after as he did enough to get it over the line.
Then Bjerrum got on the scoresheet when a shot from Tanski rebounded nicely for the Dane, who duly tucked it away at Patrick Killeen's near post.
Beca's shot from the centre into the top right hand corner of the net increased the lead to 6-2 as the home side appeared to finally kill MK off.
Then he completed his treble, showing good skill to despatch his shot after bringing in from the left, to the delight of the home fans.
Killeen was switched for Adam Goss in the Lightning net, but he could do nothing about Clan's eighth when Brendan Connolly's shot landed on the top of the net then dropped behind him.
Robbie Baillargeon got a third, but the contest was over long ago as the Clan ended the weekend with a terrific victory.
