Glasgow Clan 5 Dundee Stars 1

Glasgow Clan secured their fifth Gardiner Conference title in seven years and moved into the top three in the Elite League after a comfortable 5-1 win over Dundee Stars.

They just needed a point from the clash with Omar Pacha's men, but with the Challenge Cup semi final in Belfast coming on Thursday, Clan wanted to keep their recent momentum going.

The home side got the opening goal after seven minutes when a Matt Beca chance was blocked by Dundee goalie Pontus Sjögren.

The puck found its way to Scott Pitt loitering at the red line and he tucked it away at the angle to opening the scoring.

Dundee's Mike Sullivan took a sore one when a Brendan Connolly shot hit him square in the face, meaning he had to leave the ice for treatment.

But it didn't blunt the Stars had in going forward as goalie Joel Rumpel denied Matt Marquardt twice, first time with blocker then gloving a second attempt shortly after.

But by the break, it was two for the home side as Connolly set up Guillaume Doucet, who swept the puck into the net to double the lead.

Doucet struck the post with an early chance in the middle period as Glasgow looked to add a third during a powerplay opportunity.

But it finally came as it was scrambled into the net from close range by Gerard Hanson after he was set up by Zack Fitzgerald.

A fantastic solo goal from Brendan Connolly added a fourth when he took the puck from a defensive position, come down the right and tried an angled shot at Sjögren.

The puck somehow managed to squirm away from the helpless Dundee goalie and ended up in the net.

Charles Corcoran managed to pull one back for the visitors, but it was the only highlight of a disappointing night for the Stars.

Matt Beca sealed a good night's work when Fitzgerald picked him out with an excellent pass and when it looked like he would take it around the net, he stopped.

The move surprised the Dundee defence and Clan's top scorer managed to squeeze it in at the near post to secure the Gardiner Conference crown.
