Glasgow Clan 2 Cardiff Devils 4

A double from Matt Haywood wasn't enough as Glasgow Clan went down 4-2 to reigning champions and league leaders, Cardiff Devils.

The home side were looking for their first win on home ice against the Devils in just over three years, but that wait was prolonged in a tight encounter.

There were six minutes on the clock when the visitors took the lead when Evan Mosey sent a low diagonal shot past Joel Rumpel's right side to put Cardiff in front.

The Devils had a chance for a second one shortly after when Jake Morrissette and Mosey found themselves in a two-on-one situation, but Morrissette opted to shoot which was saved.

However the second came with three minutes to go of the first period when Gleason Fournier set up Joey Martin from the right and the visiting forward despatched the shot into the net from the slot.

Clan got themselves back with a goal four minutes into the middle period when Brendan Connolly travelled in from the right to set up Matt Haywood.

From close range, Haywood was able to despatch one from close range to beat Cardiff goalie Ben Bowns and halve the deficit.

Zack Fitzgerald and Mark Louis came together with the intention of exchanging punches, but the Clan skipper took an untimely and the bout was ended before it began.

Clan equalised early in the third when Rasmus Bjerrum found space down the left to seek Haywoos, who tucked away his second.

Cardiff retook the lead as Sean Bentivoglio got the final touch on Joey Martin's shot, which needed the help of goal line technology to confirm its legitimacy.

Mike Hedden got a penalty shot, which could have killed the game off sooner, but the Devils forward blazed his chance high.

But Martin's empty net goal with a minute to go confirmed the points were going the way of Andrew Lord's side.
