Flames edge weary Giants

Calle Ackered had a pair of powerplay goals and Chris Carrozzi made 27 saves as the Flames delivered a 3-2 home win over the visiting Belfast Giants who were attending their 3rd game in as many nights.

A little over 6 minutes into the evening, Kruise Reddick had the Flames in a lead, but in the back half of the frame a turnover in the Flames zone ended with a Darcy Murphy strike that set the teams to a 1-1 pace after 20 minutes.

The tied score looked like it might go through another period, but a Calle Ackered powerplay marker at 35:20 put the Flames back in front. Unfortunately, for the home fans, the Giants hit back a little over 2 minutes later and again a frame closed on a level score.

As the final session ticked away, overtime was looming, but another Ackered extra man strike less than 5 minutes from time sealed the win.

“After a couple of losses where we felt like maybe we should have had a least a little better luck, it is certainly good to get back into the win column.”

“We did have an advantage tonight with Belfast coming in on their 3rd game in 3 nights and it was important that we made the most of that situation because we know we will be in that same spot down the road.

“Our powerplay really came through, and we can head into Wednesday’s game against Sheffield feeling confident and looking for another success.”
